Hot Tub Safety

Hot Tub Safety at Papermill Saunas

We want every soak in our wood‑fired hot tubs to be relaxing — and safe. Please follow these safety guidelines for a good experience.

Heating & Fire Safety
  • We heat the tubs using a wood fire. The hot tub must be filled with water before lighting the fire. Never light the fire if the tub is empty.

  • Keep a safe, fire‑free zone around the firebox. No flammable materials nearby.

  • Only trained staff or responsible adults should tend the fire. Add wood only using protective gloves or tools.

  • Never leave the fire unattended while it’s burning. Make sure it’s completely extinguished before leaving the site.

  • For hygiene and safety, users must shower at home before arrival — no soaps, oils or makeup to be used in the hot tub water.
  • No makeup, fake tan, false eyelashes or heavy creams allowed — they can affect water quality and filtration.
  • Please bring your own towel and water. We don’t supply towels on‑site.
  • Never swallow hot tub water or allow others to drink it.
  • Avoid using the hot tub if you’re unwell or have open cuts or sores. This reduces the risk of skin or ear infections.
  •
  • Water temperature must be carefully managed. Hot tubs should not exceed about 40 °C. Higher temps can be dangerous.

  • Limit each soak to 15–30 minutes. Overheating can cause dizziness, nausea, or fainting.

  • Always stay hydrated. Drink water before and after your session. Hot water causes sweating and fluid loss.

  • If you feel unwell — dizzy, faint, overheated or uncomfortable — exit the tub immediately and cool down.

Certain conditions may make hot tubs unsafe for some people. If you:

  • have heart disease, circulatory problems, high or low blood pressure, or cardiovascular issues;

  • take medications (e.g. blood pressure meds, diuretics) that affect fluid balance or heat tolerance;

  • are pregnant;

  • or have respiratory conditions, epilepsy, or other serious health concerns;

you should consult your GP before booking a soak.

  • Swimwear only. No underwear or casual clothes.

  • No food, alcohol, glass, drugs or smoking in or near the hot tub.

  • No makeup, fake tan, fake eyelashes or heavy cosmetics allowed. They can damage water quality.

  • Enter and exit slowly. Surfaces may be slippery when wet. Use care when getting in or out.

  • No diving or jumping in. The tub is for soaking only.

  • Always keep the hot tub cover secured or stored properly when not in use. Never stand or lie on the cover.

  • Never run the tub alone. Always soak with at least one other adult present. This helps with safety, especially if anyone becomes unwell.

Because our tubs are wood‑fired, they carry extra fire and heat risks.

  • Use only dry, seasoned wood. Wet or green wood can produce excessive smoke, creosote or dangerous fire behaviour.
  • Maintain a safe clearance around the stove. No flammable objects, leaves, or debris nearby.
  • Keep protective gloves/tools available for adding wood. Never touch the stove or chimney directly — surfaces can be extremely hot.
